Autism Friendly - About us |CARD | University of Miami

Autism Friendly Initiative

CARD’s goal is to build a more welcoming community for citizens of all abilities by partnering with community entities interested in making a difference in the lives of people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or related disability and their families. This is all done at no cost to you.

What it means to be “Autism Friendly”

“Autism Friendly” is providing a welcoming, compassionate and nonjudgmental environment for individuals with ASD or related disabilities. You and your staff will learn effective strategies and supports that are helpful in promoting autism friendly experiences. Creating internship and employment opportunities for individuals with ASD or related disabilities is encouraged as part of the program.

 What does the process involve?

  • Your business applies for Autism Friendly services and supports.
  • Community partners are selected by a leadership team from CARD.  Priority is given to those who can participate in all aspects of the program.
  • A walk through of the business is done to check for appropriate accommodations and a welcoming environment.
  • Your business will receive recognition by CARD as “Autism Friendly” and will be added to our website as an “Autism Friendly Partner.”
